The Phuket Invitational distinguishes itself from others in the
list by being just that - invitation only. It's also one of the rare events where
sailing yachts and motorboats interact.
Billed as a 'Superyacht Rendezvous' for boats over 30m, the event was inspired by a similar event
held at the America's Cup in Auckland in March 2000.
Graham Frost of
SEAL Superyachts, with
assistance from Andy Stephens, organized the first edition that year and it attracted eight
superyachts. Ironically, the 2002 event had only two competitors due to the last America's Cup in
February 2003, although the second and fourth editions each attracted five yachts. |
