A total of ten sensational Superyachts were in attendance at this year's
Phuket
Invitational Superyacht Rendezvous. The annual event is becoming a lodestone for these big beautiful boats,
their owners and crews.
Hosted this year by Amanpuri, and again sponsored by Feadship and SEAL Superyachts, this year's event was the
biggest so far and looks like it'll get better every year.
M/y Double Issue, S/y Cordella, M/y Vie Sans Soucis, S/y Silvertip and M/y Asean Lady came to observe, while
the 94ft S/y Lady M, the 80ft S/y Intrigue and two Camper Nicholsons - the 80-year-old, 142ft, S/y Sylvia and
the 13-year-old, 94ft, S/y Yanneke Too - were there to participate.
M/y Maid Marian II, the 75-year-old Great Lakes cruiser celebrated a champagne-soaked birthday with a sunset
cruise up the northern coast of the island on the first evening. Three-quarters of a century old and she's
never looked better.
Later the crews splashed ashore for the skippers briefing and a sumptuous soiree at
Amanpuri's Villa Seven.
But the crews were expected to work for their vittals and were put to the test building miniature sailing
vessels which were pitted against each other in an uproarious set of races, powered by the crew member with
the most puff.
The next day's event was a far more sober affair - although the crew of Intrigue did comment that their
biggest problem during the race was that they ran low on beer. Despite this set back Dr Nicholson's
Dubios
80 still managed to take line honours.
Sailing was followed by more feasting, this time on the beach in front of the Amanpuri.
SEAL's Adam Frost
presented trophies to all the participants of the rally and to the winner of the previous day's model boat
race, while Feadship's Hein Velema presented Pavel Kopecky, owner of Maid Marian II, with a framed photo of
his boat for its 75th anniversary.
