Celebrating its 6th year, the PISYR has firmly established itself as one of the most
glamorous and exclusive
events on the sailing calendar. This is an event for owners, yacht guests, captains and crew of all
Superyachts visiting the Phuket area in the run-up to Christmas. Participation at the rendezvous is by
invitation only and there is no charge.
Hein Velema, Chair of principal sponsor Feadship's Board of Directors, says: "Feadship is proud
to be the principal sponsor of The Phuket Invitational. Having been active in Asia since the late 1980s, we
recognize the importance of this informal event. The Phuket Invitational is a unique occasion and, as the
world's premier Superyacht builder, we welcome the initiative to organize a rendezvous for Superyachts in
the region."
Held on the Phuket coastline surrounding the Amanpuri Resort on 19 and 20 December, the event boasted record
participants, spectators and sponsor support, reinforcing the year-on-year growth of the event. Exciting
daily sailing events and afternoon cocktail parties aboard some of the participating Superyachts, culminated
in an exclusive gala dinner. The Amanpuri hosted the exclusive Phuket Invitational Beach Party and provided
a delicious buffet banquet and great entertainment. Sponsors and
organizers presented prizes to winning
participants and the evening ended in guests dancing to the sounds of locally acclaimed band Deja vu. Guests
also enjoyed exclusive sunset cocktail parties on board the Maid Marian II to celebrate her 75th anniversary
and the Aman Cruise yacht M/Y Maha Bhetra. Crews from participating Superyachts and sponsors tested their
boat-building ability in the fun Feadship Challenge, when they were asked to make a model boat from a simple
kit and sail down a short course.
Juthamas Siriwan, the Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, co-sponsors of the event said:
"We recognize the importance of this event for the fact that it shows Phuket and the surrounding
areas of the Andaman coast are becoming known as a premier cruising destination for the world's wealthiest
and elite sailing fraternity."
